THE REVIEW PROCESS
The review process starts with the owners, possibly a voluntary group of artists currently showing at the gallery, and occasionally guest panelists when invited by the owners. Their role is to determine the quality of your work, its level of uniqueness, and its fit within the gallery. Included in all this is the “sale-ability factor” – will the public want to purchase it?
Here’s the 4-step process:
Step 1: Contact Jeff Hughart at 208/267-8020 or 267-8689. He’ll answer your questions and provide remittance instructions for your application.
Step 2: Complete an application and return it along with your bio or resume and 3-6 photos of your work or a URL to your website.
Step 3: You will be contacted and either invited to submit samples of your work or be given an explanation as to why your work will not be presented to the panel.
Step 4: If invited to present your work to the panel, 5-7 samples of your art will be reviewed, and you will be contacted again and either invited to join the gallery or be given an explanation as to why your work will not be shown. Accepted members will be taken through the steps of having their work introduced into the gallery.
* Viewing works on a website can be a substitute for having to physically bring works into the gallery for viewing
MEMBERSHIP
Joining artists will enter into a lease that will automatically renew monthly, requiring a 30-day notice by either party to terminate the relationship. The philosophy here is that the artist has the right to determine, in their own judgment, whether they are satisfied with their relationship with Groove Studio and can continue status quo, as well as the owners. We need 30 days notice in order to replace your space with a new, incoming artist.
MEMBERSHIP DEFINED
LOCAL MEMBER: Any member who lives close enough to the studio and will hold shifts. Local members will be required to work in the studio each month. BUT REMEMBER! Being at the studio allows you to interact with the public who is viewing and purchasing your art!!! Besides, it’s a really fun place to be!
AREA MEMBER: Any member who is unable to hold working shifts in the gallery.
LEASE SPACE FEES
Space is leased to each member on a monthly basis and is considered “rent,” due on the first of each month.
LOCAL MEMBERSHIP:
$45 per month + 5 shifts (2.5 days)
$55 per month + 4 shifts (2 days)
$65 per month + 3 shifts (1.5 days)
$75 per month + 2 shifts (1.0 days)
AREA MEMBERSHIP: $95 per month + 0 shifts
Your time spent at the gallery saves you significantly in membership dues. We cannot stay open to the public and show your work without the participation and commitment of everyone. The quarterly work schedule will always be at the front desk. You may fill in as many days beyond the established minimum as you’d like. You are responsible for the days you’ve chosen. You may arrange for a substitute to fill your spot, whether it’s another member or an adult member or friend – as long as they have been introduced to the owners and have been approved in advance.
